Kaleidoscope Repair & Restoration

Each kaleidoscope I work on is returned with documentation of the work, including any modifications or changes made to the original scope, as well as any history of the piece and its’ maker and year of creation (if known).

Seen here is a scope sent to me because the object chamber had become damaged, and its; unusual oil-filled cell has lost its’ fluid. Although the scope was in overall good condition, After opening it up, there were several issues not seen until then.

This is often the case with scopes sent to me for repair or restoration. Although a kaleidoscope is a relatively simple device, lots of things can go wrong if one gets dropped or otherwise mishandled by the darling little children...or the cat.

oops!

It was quite well made, but contained a liquid filled object cell that was broken and had lost all of its' contents.

I put it back together, and filled the chamber with about 30 pieces of my own lampworked, cut and engraved glass objects and sent it on its' way home with a new attitude that ought to keep its' viewers happy for quite awhile, even if the children are allowed to play with it!
